A biaxial crystal is an anisotropic crystal which has two axes of optical symmetry, known as optic axes, creating an optical structure more complex than that of uniaxial crystals. These crystals can separate a beam of light into two ordinary rays and one extraordinary ray, resulting in unique birefringent properties that are harnessed in various optical applications.
