Theoretical plates are a conceptual measure used in chromatography to describe the efficiency of a separation column, where each plate represents an equilibrium stage between the mobile and Stationary Phases. The higher the number of Theoretical plates, the more efficient the column is at separating components, resulting in sharper peaks and better resolution.
