Mucosa refers to the moist, inner lining of some organs and body cavities, such as the nose, mouth, lungs, and stomach, which serves as a protective barrier and facilitates absorption and secretion. It is composed of one or more layers of epithelial cells overlying a layer of loose connective tissue, known as the lamina propria, and often contains glands that secrete mucus.
