The Military Reconstruction Act was a series of statutes passed by the U.S. Congress in 1867, aimed at reorganizing the Southern states after the Civil War and ensuring the Civil Rights of Freed slaves. It divided the South into five Military Districts, each governed by a Union general, and required states to draft New constitutions guaranteeing African American Men the Right To Vote as a condition for Readmission to the Union.
