Middle Francia was a Frankish kingdom that existed from 843 to 855, created by the Treaty of Verdun as a result of the division of the Carolingian Empire among the three grandsons of Charlemagne. It was a short-lived polity that laid the groundwork for future European territories, including parts of modern-day Italy, France, and Germany.
