The Hounsfield scale is a quantitative scale for describing radiodensity, assigning a value to each tissue type based on its attenuation of X-rays compared to water and air. It is fundamental in computed tomography (CT) imaging, enabling the differentiation of tissue types by their specific Hounsfield unit (HU) values, which range from -1000 (air) to over 3000 (dense bone).
