Endoscopic Variceal Ligation (EVL) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat esophageal varices by placing rubber bands around the varices to cut off blood flow, leading to their eventual sloughing off. It is a preferred method due to its effectiveness in reducing the risk of variceal bleeding and has a lower complication rate compared to sclerotherapy.
