The dartos muscle is a layer of smooth muscle fibers found in the scrotum and is responsible for the wrinkling of the scrotal skin and the regulation of temperature for optimal spermatogenesis. It functions involuntarily, contracting in response to cold temperatures to reduce heat loss and relaxing in warmer conditions to allow for heat dissipation.
