History of Ownership in Greenland

Enroll
Greenland was originally settled by Paleo-Inuit peoples and around 982 AD was colonized by Norse settlers from Iceland, led by Erik the Red. In the early 18th century, Denmark-Norway claimed sovereignty over Greenland, and when Denmark and Norway separated in 1814, Greenland officially became a Danish colony, later gaining increased autonomy but remaining a part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
