Variance reduction is a statistical technique used to decrease the variability of an estimator, thereby increasing the precision of estimates without increasing the sample size. It is commonly used in simulation and Monte Carlo methods to improve the accuracy and efficiency of results by employing strategies such as control variates, antithetic variates, and importance sampling.
