Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is a cytokine involved in systemic inflammation and is part of the acute phase reaction. It plays a key role in the body's immune response, including the regulation of immune cells, and can induce fever, apoptotic cell death, cachexia, and inflammation, as well as inhibit tumorigenesis and viral replication.
