A Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) is a minimally invasive procedure used to create a pathway between the portal and systemic venous systems to reduce portal hypertension and its complications, such as variceal bleeding and ascites. This procedure involves inserting a stent via the jugular vein to connect the portal vein to a hepatic vein, effectively bypassing the liver to decrease venous pressure.
