In Marxist theory, the superstructure is the social, political, and ideological systems and institutions that arise from and serve to reinforce the economic base, or the means and relations of production. It reflects the interests of the ruling class and helps maintain the status quo by shaping cultural and social norms, laws, and beliefs.
