Slice selection is a fundamental technique in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that allows for the imaging of specific slices of the body by selectively exciting the nuclear spins within a desired slice. This is achieved through the application of a magnetic field gradient during the radiofrequency pulse, which ensures that only the spins within the targeted slice are excited, enabling precise spatial localization.
