Retinal Pigment Epithelium 0
The Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE) is a critical layer of cells in the eye that supports the photoreceptors and maintains visual function by absorbing excess light, recycling visual pigments, and forming the blood-retina barrier. Dysfunction or degeneration of the RPE is implicated in several retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
