The proximity effect is a phenomenon where the bass frequencies of a sound source increase as the microphone is placed closer to the source, commonly experienced in directional microphones. This effect is often utilized in audio production to enhance the warmth and presence of vocals or instruments, but it can also lead to unwanted muddiness if not managed properly.
