Concept
ARPANET, the precursor to the modern Internet, was the first network to implement the TCP/IP protocol suite, establishing the foundational architecture for global digital communication. Developed by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense, it initially connected four university computers in 1969, demonstrating the feasibility of a networked digital communication system.
