Concept
Par value is the nominal or face value of a bond or stock as stated by the issuer, representing the minimum value that must be paid back at maturity for bonds or the baseline value for stock. While it holds significant importance for bonds in determining coupon payments and maturity values, for stocks, it often has little bearing on market value and is primarily a legal and accounting construct.
