Concept
The P wave is the first deflection on an electrocardiogram (ECG) and represents atrial depolarization, which is the electrical activation of the atria prior to contraction. It provides critical information about atrial size and function, and abnormalities in the P wave can indicate various cardiac conditions such as atrial enlargement or arrhythmias.
