The Origin Recognition Complex (ORC) is a multi-subunit protein complex that is essential for the initiation of DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. It binds to specific DNA sequences known as origins of replication, marking them as sites for the assembly of additional replication machinery necessary for the duplication of the genome.
