A lithotripter is a medical device used to break down kidney stones and other calculi within the body, allowing them to be passed naturally or removed more easily. It primarily employs shock wave therapy, known as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), to non-invasively disintegrate stones into smaller fragments.
