Pragmatic trials are designed to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in real-world clinical settings, focusing on outcomes that matter to patients and healthcare providers. Unlike explanatory trials, which test interventions under ideal conditions, Pragmatic trials aim to produce results that are directly applicable to everyday practice.
A Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order is a legal directive that prevents healthcare providers from performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if a patient's breathing or heart stops. It respects a patient's autonomy and end-of-life wishes, often being part of broader advance care planning discussions.
A civil union is a legally recognized arrangement similar to marriage, created primarily as a means to provide legal recognition to same-sex couples and ensure them similar rights and benefits. While not universally recognized, civil unions typically grant partners rights related to inheritance, taxation, medical decisions, and other legal matters, but may lack the full legal equivalence of marriage in some jurisdictions.
