Commutation relations are fundamental in quantum mechanics, as they define the mathematical conditions under which two operators can be simultaneously measured or known. They particularly serve to highlight the inherent limitations in measurements, as seen in the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, where non-commuting observables cannot both be precisely determined at the same time.
