Concept
Combatant Status 0
Combatant status is a classification in international humanitarian law that determines whether an individual is entitled to certain protections and privileges during armed conflict. It distinguishes between lawful combatants, who are allowed to participate in hostilities and are entitled to prisoner of war status upon capture, and unlawful combatants, who do not receive these protections and can be prosecuted for their participation in hostilities.
