Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a prenatal test conducted to detect genetic abnormalities in a fetus by collecting and analyzing a small sample of placental tissue. Typically performed between the 10th and 13th week of pregnancy, CVS provides early diagnostic information but carries a small risk of miscarriage.
