The Capital Allocation Line (CAL) represents the risk-return profile of different portfolio combinations of a risk-free asset and a risky asset, illustrating how investors can optimize their portfolios by adjusting the proportion of these assets. The slope of the CAL, known as the Sharpe Ratio, indicates the additional return per unit of risk, guiding investors in achieving the highest possible returns for a given level of risk tolerance.
