Canalithiasis is a condition characterized by the presence of small calcium carbonate crystals, known as canaliths, in the semicircular canals of the inner ear, leading to benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This condition causes brief episodes of mild to intense dizziness, typically triggered by specific changes in head position.
