Lung collapse, or pneumothorax, occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, causing part or all of a lung to collapse. It can result from chest injury, lung disease, or spontaneously, and requires prompt medical attention to re-expand the lung and restore normal breathing function.
